NEWS: 🎤 ShySpeaks Live in Forney, TX | Juneteenth Performance Highlights

Some moments go beyond the stage.

At the Juneteenth celebration hosted at The Spellman in Forney, TX, ShySpeaks delivered a live performance that blended spoken word, music, and storytelling into a powerful community experience.

Opening with “Hidden Heroes,” the performance called attention to the often-overlooked voices that have shaped history. That reflection carried seamlessly into “Not Now,” a full-band declared that no matter the obstacle, quitting is not an option. Too much grit, too much purpose, too many people to bless.

This wasn’t just entertainment...it was engagement!

EVENT: ShySpeaks at TDJE's Good Soil Forum '24 w/ Journeyman Ink

I had the pleasure of being part of the Good Soil Forum by TDJ Enterprise, joining my talented compadres Journeyman Ink for an unforgettable experience. While the forum primarily focuses on panels and speaking sessions, we brought an artistic element to the production as an ode to this year’s theme, The Rhythm of Entrepreneurship.

In addition to collaborating with Journeyman Ink and an incredible jazz trio for a reflective journey, I shared a solo spoken-word set that challenged business owners after hearing a days worth of insights, tips, and tricks of the trade...to also embrace a "Whatever It Takes" mentality. It was truly an honor to inspire and connect with so many visionaries and creatives.

NEWS: Better Place x Amen Music & Girl Scouts of North Texas

NEWS: Better Place x Amen Music & Girl Scouts of North Texas

Story Time: How “Better Place” Came to Be

It all started with a simple email. Tara introduced me to Sabrina Harrison, which quickly turned into a phone call that would set this entire project in motion.

The Girl Scouts of North Texas (@gsnetx) had connected with Sabrina’s True Music Label to write a custom song and prepare a group of girls to perform it live at their annual fundraiser.

Dante Bowe came in—ready to deliver—but they also wanted to add some feminine energy to the project. Specifically, they needed:

A woman in Dallas, TX who could write rap and spoken word for the song.

Someone who regularly worked with youth and could find a teen girl to perform live.

An artist who could assist Dante in teaching the girls how to sing the song and perform choreography.

👋 That’s where I stepped in!

I am proud to have penned the spoken word & rap portion of the song. Meanwhile, shout to Dante Bowe, Bailey The Producer, and the whole Amen Music group for cooking up this heat! With Bailey The Producer laying the production foundation, writing came naturally. And thanks to the brilliant visual storytelling of ISP Creative, this moment has been captured forever.

The result? Better Place—a song created to inspire hope, empower the next generation, and literally make the 🌍 a better place.

NEWS: ShySpeaks & the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders's = Why Not Cheer

In honor of Black History Month 2024, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders (DCC) launched “Why Not Cheer”—a powerful creative project celebrating unity and the rhythm of shared history.

For this special initiative, the DCC collaborated with Dallas-native spoken word artist ShySpeaks, who wrote and performed the custom spoken word + rap + musical composition (with her long-time engineer/producer, Antone Amalbert) that became the heartbeat of the performance.

The performance video featured the Cheerleaders dancing to the track while highlighting ShySpeaks’ presence on-screen, underscoring the deep connection between the words, music, and movement.

Behind the Music

Shortly after the release, ShySpeaks shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of “Why Not Cheer.” In the vlog with her producer, she walked fans through how the song came together—from the writing process to recording in the studio.

Community Impact

As part of this Black History Month celebration, the DCC also connected with the DeSoto Eaglettes and their Director, DCC legend Regina Tucker. Students from both the DeSoto Middle & High School Dance Departments participated in a prep class that brought professional inspiration to young dancers, building a bond between the organizations.

This collaboration between the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and ShySpeaks stands as a vibrant reminder of how music, movement, and storytelling can come together to honor culture, inspire communities, and celebrate history.
